MixxedFit®

mixxedfitclassMixxedFit is a people-inspired dance fitness program that is a mix of explosive dancing and boot camp toning. Everything about our dance fitness program can be described as explosive – all of our movements are always big, exaggerated, full-out, and our very best. We dance to our favorite songs on the radio that we would dance to at a nightclub. Then, we spice things up by adding boot camp-inspired exercises to make your workout more effective and challenging. If you’re plateauing in your traditional dance fitness class, this might be the answer to your prayers. A traditional MixxedFit® class is 60 minutes in length and will get you to your fitness goals a lot quicker than just dancing alone. Why? Because the secret is in the toning that we incorporate. The best part of it all is that we tone using our own bodies. No equipment, no dumbbells, and no awkward toning contraptions! Our choreography is not complex and difficult. Our steps are repetitive and very easy to follow which means that our students can naturally increase their level of intensity during their workouts. We aim to keep our choreography simple. That way, our students can focus on “working out” rather than following dance steps. If you can do things like squats, jumping jacks, and shake that booty, you will have a blast in class.

Step UP (Step Aerobics)

stepGet your heart beating and your hips shaking with a 50- minute “Step Aerobics” workout.  This is NOT your Jane Fonda step class! No leotards or leg warmers needed! Step UP is a step aerobic, hip-hop and modern dance hybrid that is the hottest thing to hit The Studio! It’s loud, it’s funky and it is a cool way to throw more variety into your cardio mix. We combine the awesome toning and strengthening power of Step aerobics, with a fun and simple dance moves.

HulaBlast

A complete and total body workout incorporating resistance training with hand weights combined with Polynesian dance moves, all done to Reggae, Jawaiian, Polynesian and Hip Hop music. Bring in a taste of the tropics while carving out a new YOU!

Line Dance 

FOOTLOOSEJoin us in learning how to country line dance while getting great exercise. Even in your gym shoes, this non-step jam session will have you movin’ and grovin’, as you have fun learning all the old, new and requested line dances.  If your body can move, you can line dance at The Studio! All levels and new dancers are welcome.

PLEASE NO BOOTS OR BARE FEET!!! Tennis shoes or dance shoes should be worn. Soft soles only please.

Tango

tango-classBeginning Traditional Argentine Tango is an introduction to the techniques, figures and cultural aspects of the tango. Students will learn the embrace, a variety of caminatas (walking), ochos, and several basic figures. This class will also introduce music appreciation, and improvisation in the dance. This class is open to couples and singles. Please wear socks to the first class – we will discuss footwear at that time. We encourage students to attend the class regularly as the material builds each week.

Hoop Dance 

hoopclassHoop dance is the fun way to fabulous fitness. You will learn to hoop on your waist, hands, hips, legs, lift the hoop off the body, move around the room to music while hooping, discover your own rhythm and so much more.

Sunrise Yoga  

Sunrise-Yoga-WallpaperA fitness-based approach to Vinyasa style flow. Students will focus on linking conscious breath with a vigorous and mindful flow. In this class, students will build strength, flexibility and concentration while cleansing the body and calming the mind. You can expect a great cardiovascular and strength building workout combined with breath work. This class is designed for everyone no matter your experience or fitness level. Please bring a mat to class.

Poi Spinning (coming soon) 

poiclassIntro to the joy of poi, an exercise, meditation and art form focused on helping you gain body awareness, balance, coordination, muscle development, freedom of motion, self-expression and have a lot of fun while doing it. This introduction to poi fire dancing class targets beginning students who have limited or no experience with poi.  Please note, for safety reasons, this class will not use fire.

Kickboxing

kicker2Get ready to burn fat, reduce stress and tone up by punching and kicking real heavy bags. We combine cardio, resistance and interval training to give you the most effective workout possible. Our fun and engaging group fitness classes keep the punches and kicks basic to focus on the fitness aspect of your workout. Since our kickboxing classes are for both beginner and advanced levels, each member can work out at their own pace. *Hand protection required*

LOW INTENSITY CLASS: Enjoy the same great kickboxing class with lower intensity and modified movements. Great for older adults, adults with previous injuries, or those just starting a fitness regimen.
This class is for:
* Participants who suffer from high blood pressure, anxiety, for those who have to lose 50+ pounds and would like to exercise at a steady yet gradual pace
* Men and women ages 55 and up. However, all ages 18 and up are welcome
* Those who have had previous injury and would like to gradually get back towards their fitness goals

TEEN ONLY CLASSES:  starting June 7th Wednesdays and Fridays @ 4pm. This class will be for ages 14-17 only. We ask that teens do NOT attend our adult classes on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays. Parent waiver must be signed IN PERSON at The Studio before student can participate. Just like our other classes at The Studio, registration is encouraged due to limited space of 10 participants per class.

Butts & Guts

The name says it all! This is the perfect class for clients of all fitness levels wishing to tone their legs, backside and abs. This booty blasting cardio quickie incorporates flowing movement with strength building exercises. This class focuses on lower body and abdominal toning, sculpting, and strengthening. During this upbeat 30-minute class, you will dance through easy to follow repetitions that target those stubborn areas. Butts and Guts was inspired by several different training techniques including ballet, gymnastics, yoga, HIIT, Pilates, and more. Combining these training techniques into a 30-minute series of movement, creates a unique fitness class that allows you to squeeze a quick, yet effective lower body work out in to your busy schedule. This class is so fun you’ll forget you’re working out. Please note this is a 30 minute class.

Be Bendy

bebendyclassStand straighter, look leaner and recover faster from your workouts. This 60 minute class is for anyone who would like to increase their flexibility and range of motion. You will learn how to safely stretch your legs, shoulders, hips and back while building muscle and core strength. Stretching has the potential to decrease injury by preparing the muscles for work before activity and increases blood and nutrient supply to the muscles, thereby possibly decreasing muscle soreness. Stretching can also calm the mind, provide a mental break and give your body a chance to recharge. Please bring your own mat.

Sharon will combine aspects of her knowledge of ballet and classic modern dance,* to design a gentle, yet vigorous class.  We will begin with a slow, luxurious warmup, add floor exercises to increase flexibility and strength.  Center work will highlight alignment and the integration of the whole body while moving to decrease stress on individual joints.  The class will conclude with joyous across-the-floor sequences where we can really fly, and a slow cool down.

Sharon believes that dance is a wonderful way to celebrate the bodies we are given.  We can capitalize on our unique strengths and learn strategies for moving with greater ease and delight.  Sharon loves all kinds of music, so you may find yourself dancing to Mozart, a steamy Bollywood number, a Beatles tune or the longing of Portuguese fado.

Wear loose, comfortable clothing.  Barefoot is best, but ballet or jazz shoes are also acceptable. *Please note that this is a “specialty”  1.5 hour class and requires a separate punch card than our other weekly classes*

*What is Classic Modern Dance?

In the early years of the twentieth century there was a reaction against the stylized artificiality of ballet, an interest in ethnic dance forms and a desire to codify the art of choreography.   Modern dance is a difficult-to-define genre because its hallmark is the individuality of these reactionary founders, each of whom had very different theories of movement.  They shared an interest in the natural body, an emphasis on body weight being down into the floor (unlike the lightness of ballet,) a desire to use natural forces, such as gravity and centrifugal force as impulses for movement, and the acceptance of a wider range of body types as “dancerly.”  Modern companies today range from the almost classical lyricism of Lar Lubovic to the African American influences of Alvin Ailey to the witty contortions of Pilobolus and beyond.  Sharon’s training leans toward the lyrical end of the spectrum, with all kinds of other influences (including, of course, ballet.)
